2016-17 University Scholarship Recipients Announced

NAIOP Chicago is pleased to announce its 2016-17 University Scholarship recipients.  These bright, talented graduate and undergraduate students represent the next generation of real estate leaders in the Chicagoland area. This year’s winners will be introduced at the 2016 NAIOP Chicago Awards for Excellence on November 17th at Navy Pier.

In addition to tuition assistance, scholarship recipients receive a one year NAIOP membership, complimentary attendance at select NAIOP Chicago events, mentorship opportunities, and attendance at NAIOP’s annual Commercial Real Estate Conference (graduate students only). Applications for the NAIOP Chicago University Scholarship program are accepted in late Spring each year.

Congratulations to our 2016-17 Scholarship Recipients!

l.harris_crop3Lillian Harris, Roosevelt University
Lillian is an MBA candidate in Real Estate Development at Roosevelt University.  She has a BS in Social Work from the University of Illinois at Chicago and a Master of Arts, Research, Strategic Management, and Program Evaluation from the University of Chicago School of Social Service Administration.  She is a previous CREW Chicago, Appraisal Institute, and Chicago Association of Realtors Scholar as well as a member of the Roosevelt team who placed 2nd in this year’s Eisenberg Midwest Real Estate Competition.  Lillian has held numerous positions in non-profit management over the past ten years, most notably, founder and Board Chair of Advocates for Adolescent Mothers, a Chicago-based organization committed to empowering young parents to help break the cycle of poverty.  She would like to secure a position in real estate finance and investment management upon graduation.

patel-crop2Rahul Patel, DePaul University
Rahul is currently earning an MBA with a focus in Real Estate Finance and Investment at DePaul’s Kellstadt Graduate School of Business.  He has a BS in Electronics Engineering from DeVry University graduating with high honors and a M.S. in Computer Science from the Illinois Institute of Technology.  He is the 2016 recipient of both the Founding Sponsor Scholarship at DePaul and the ICSC Real Estate Conference (RECon) Travel Scholarship.  He is a real estate broker for Provident Realty, Inc. focusing on residential, commercial and investment properties including acquisition of distressed properties.  In addition, Rahul is Senior Project Manager at Nokia leading a team of engineers delivering new products and services to the consumer market. He has also served as a New Product Specialist and a Lead Engineer for the company.  Upon completion of his degree, Rahul would like to work towards acquiring and managing a large real estate portfolio of commercial properties.

erik_p_crop2Erik Potocek, Marquette University
Erik is currently a senior at Marquette University in Milwaukee, WI and will complete his BS in Business Administration with a concentration in Real Estate and Finance in May 2017.  He is President of the Commercial Real Estate Club and is a member of both the Investment Club and Delta Sigma Pi business fraternity.  Erik has been an agent assistant and office sales intern for Marcus & Millichap in Brookfield, WI for the past year prospecting, researching, and drafting proposals.  As a native of Illinois, Erik hopes to find a position in Chicago after graduation in investment sales with a focus on retail.
