Congratulations to the 2017-18 University Scholarship Recipients!
NAIOP Chicago is honored to introduce the 2017-18 University Scholarship recipients. These promising graduate and undergraduate students represent only a fraction of the many bright and motivated new members of the real estate industry poised to become future leaders in the Chicagoland area. The winners were officially announced on November 16th at the 2017 NAIOP Chicago Awards for Excellence at Navy Pier.
In addition to the tuition assistance included in the scholarship, the recipients of the University Scholarship also receive a one-year NAIOP membership, as well as a variety of other local benefits. The NAIOP Chicago University Scholarship program is annual, with applications to the program accepted in early Summer of each year. Read more about our University Scholarship program.
Justin Hucek
On track to graduate in June of 2018, Justin is a candidate for an MBA in Real Estate at DePaul University’s Kellstadt Graduate School of Business. Justin attended DePaul for his undergraduate degree as well, receiving a BS in Accounting and Real Estate. Already a licensed real estate broker with over 6 years of finance experience at major Chicago financial firms, Justin interns for Lee & Associates in Rosemont, where he combines his previous investment knowledge with his passion for real estate. A firm believer in professional networking and industry experience as crucial for success in the real estate industry, Justin is excited to begin a position at CBRE in June as a Transaction Manager in the office tenant representation group.
Dedric Richardson
Dedric Richardson is currently earning his Master’s of Science in Real Estate from Roosevelt University. After receiving his BBA in Finance from the University of Iowa, Dedric, a native Chicagoan, returned home to pursue his real estate aspirations and to lend his financial expertise as a tour manager within the local music industry. When he’s not dabbling in the Chicago rap scene, Dedric works as an acquisition analyst at the Community Investment Corporation and as a leasing agent for Chicago Apartment Finders. Dedric’s overall approach to real estate can be typified through his commitment to proactively adapt to changing real estate trends through education and outreach within the industry. As an upbeat self-starter who defied multiple set-backs as an underprivileged youth, Dedric wishes to apply his driven nature towards success within the real estate industry by beginning his own development company and eventually giving back to other real estate students who grew up in similarly challenging situations.
Hannah Thiry
Hannah is a senior at Marquette University in Milwaukee, WI, where she will complete her BS in Business Administration in May 2018. A Real Estate and Finance major and an Urban Affairs minor, Hannah is the Outreach Vice President of Marquette’s Student Government and a member of the Commercial Real Estate club, where she participated in NAIOP’s mentor program. Hannah is currently interning at Kiva, helping borrowers navigate microlending, as well as at Daryl Flood Inc., collecting property data and reviewing lease terms for the company. After gaining a few years of experience in real estate development, Hannah plans on attending law school. Her end goals include practicing real estate law while advocating for policies that promote housing justice in urban areas.
